The bar was raised yet again with this year’s AyA Managers Weekend challenge. The managers came up with this year’s theme – director’s search and rescue, with a foot and canoe race to start, and a last minute orienteering challenge before rescuing a director and carrying them home to safety.
Four teams of three each selected a runner who raced to determine choice of canoe. From there each team had to canoe around the island and reach the designated start point on the mainland. The theatrics started early as one (not quite anonymous) team’s canoe launch was spectacularly less than successful, but before long all teams were criss-crossing the great outdoors looking for the strategically place markers. Once all markers were found (and verified!) stretchers were assembled using only twine and found material.
The race concluded with a last paddle back to the island and ‘sprint’ to the point. Congratulations to Anya, Scott and Dan for their championship performance, and to Moose, Avtar and Tarek; the comeback kids.
The quick recap: the weather held out and despite the forecast turned sunny, the water was unseasonably warm, the food and drink copious and delicious, the jokes off-colour and the fishing fine.
Once again, another great weekend!!
