Paying Attention to Detail

img_4308_cc_webIt’s the little things that count! Although this may involve a slight increase to the budget, the small details will become a lasting addition to the overall presentation of your space. It is true, that a little extra can definitely go a long way! Additional details that you may choose to incorporate into your space will not only leave you loving your kitchen, but can also create the unique kitchen design you are looking for.

Cabinets alone can create a beautiful space however, when you add that extra touch with details, it’s almost as though you’re really bringing the room to life. Some additional details can include items such as corbels, pilasters, ornamentation and mouldings. The overall design, as you add these items to your cabinets, can become very rich and complete. These additions are exactly what can make your kitchen cabinets more of a furniture piece, rather than just space for storage.

Details added to your cabinets do not have to be entirely elaborate, instead;for example like a window valance placed between two cabinets that sit on either side of a window, can create a perfect finished look. Rather than keeping a straight visual line of your upper cabinets, you can stagger the heights and complete the look with crown moulding. This can turn you kitchen around and make the design of the space more exciting!

img_4311_cc_webI know what you might be thinking, “but I don’t want that traditional rich look for the design of my kitchen!” Don’t worry; this can apply to modern contemporary kitchens as well. Introducing corbels and details with intricate patterns would not fit into this type of kitchen design, so using more subtle details would definitely be more appropriate. Try things like framing cabinets with thicker panels to create a framed look. Rather than using the usual toekick that matches the cabinets above, try using different finishes for this piece, such as stainless steel or a different solid colour, all depending on the overall finish of your kitchen of course. This can definitely introduce more depth to your cabinets.

Now, don’t go overboard by adding too many details to you kitchen! This might result in an over powering, unorganized cabinet layout. The details are meant to be things that are added to your kitchen not the other way around. Incorporate only the most appropriate details to your cabinets that will create the perfect design. Talk to your designer for advice on what you like, and what is going to work best with your space and style.

Remember; after all the functional design is complete, it is time to make your kitchen even more beautiful! Incorporate some additional details to your kitchen and make your cabinets even more appealing!
