Causing COMMOTION at the DX Annual Fundraising Gala!

img_9116_cc_smWhat a party!  Last Saturday evening, AyA’s design team hit the Design Exchange for the design party of the year where Toronto’s foremost in the design community all gathered to kick it up a few notches at this ultra hip bash.

As you first entered the main lobby, you were instantly struck by the unmistakable energy of the evening whilst sipping away on some French bubbly and enjoying a variety of mouth watering hors d’oeurves.  The irresistible silent auction offerings beckoned you to place your bids – from Tiffany and Co. jewelry to a complete entertainment center  (which even included the Beatles Rock Band) – there was something to entice all.  The back lobby was magically transformed into a glamorous night club – black lacquered furnishings and crystal candelabras set the glam backdrop for 80′s inspired break dancers and singers – complete with 80′s mod make-up and costuming – truly retro!  For those who were waning from all the excitement, an oxygen bar breathed new life into their blood streams - definitely needed as the party was just getting started (we haven’t even hit the main event)!

For those who enjoyed a sumptuous dinner upstairs honouring the designers of RIM (crackberries anyone?), mouth watering  filet mignon, wild mushroom crostini and decandent white chocolate risotto were just a few of the lavish dinner items enjoyed.   AyA had a blast with  Jane Lockhart of  The W Network’s  Colour Confidential and Allen Chan, Anwar Mekhayech and Mathew Davis of HGTV Canada’s The Designer Guys – lots of fun was had by all!

Now the party can really get started – down to the exchange floor for the main event where the space had been transcended into a swanky dance club complete with a laser light show overhead, refreshing (and potent!) blackberry martini’s, a jazz band from Paris, a center stage with an ice rink for interpretive skate numbers and 80′s mod inspired models posing on a 2010 Audi R8 – almost too many visual stimulants to name!

We’ll keep you posted about next year’s event – but if this sounds like your kind of party – you won’t want to miss out and trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
